What to wear in Autumn in the heart of Italy

We have four seasons here in Umbria. After wearing next to nothing during the heatwave that is our summer, we’re back to covering up, in layers. But rushing into winter clothing is not advised because cold weather requires warm coats and practical boots and every winter we get tired of those outfits.

In a rush to catch up with the changing weather, autumn outfits seem more random. Marching tights with loafers is always a fun idea. Matching burgundy loafers with a gold jeans skirt seemed risky but the gold in the skirt was paired with a long-sleeve t-shirt (the excellent cut is by Majestic Filatures). And the tones calmed down with a neutral belt and leather jacket. This look as fresh just after a blow dry at the coiffeur.

St. James

I wear striped French nautical dresses by St. James similar to how my grandmother wore her house dresses – at home, comfortable, resting in the afternoon sun.

Lululemon

For tennis, I wear the vivid colored of Lululemon in skirt, shirts, and even the shoes which already have the red tint of our clay courts in Umbria.

This plaid wool handbag has lots of useful compartments.

By Saturday morning, after a week of tennis, a hat covers up the messy hair until the appointment at the coiffure.

Saturday morning is for jeans or casual pants such as corduroys.
